About Us

Never in a million years did we think we would actually be doing this. I have always had a passion for fashion and my sister has always loved a good project.  When we received a call asking us if we were interested in opening our own business, we knew we had to make a quick decision simply due to the prime time location (historic downtown Newburgh, IN).  When you think shopping in this region, you think downtown Newburgh!  Neither of us have any experience in retail but we are both hard working women and always down for a new challenge. We are not only sisters, but we are truly best friends. Working together would be a dream come true for us.  So without hesitation, we said YES.

I could go on and on about the long nights and bumps in the road, but who wants to focus on that?  All that matters is after just 60 days, the doors opened at VELVET MOD. 

Everyone asks us "What does Velvet Mod mean?" To be honest, it was just two words that we both liked and decided they sounded good together.  Velvet is a word that stuck out to us when we thought fashion and luxury.  Mod is a British word that was used a lot in the 60's that meant "something that's stylish or cutting-edge."

Our first focus was the brick and mortar.  I am so proud of us for how beautiful the store looks.  My sister had a vision and she brought it to life.  We have been open a little over 3 months and let me tell you, these past three months have been amazing!  We are so blessed and so thankful to everyone who has encouraged us, supported us, and shopped with us.

So many of you have been asking us about an online store. Well, now that we have our feet (somewhat) wet, we decided it's time to launch our website. We are still so new to all of this, so bear with us!  Through all of the growing pains, we continue to stay focused on our main goal: making women and men of all ages feel beautiful, confident and fashionable!  Regardless if you're a size 0 or a size 16, loving the skin you're in is the ultimate goal.
